1. Any OE production-framed 250cc/450cc motocross or off-road motorcycle
is eligible for competition, regardless of year. In keeping with the
low-buck premise of the class, frame modifications (such as rake
alterations, swingarm shortening, etc.) are not permitted.
2. The engine must carry its OE displacement of 250cc/450cc
(+/- stock overbore allowances). Boring and stroking the engine
to increase displacement to the maximum 450cc limit is allowed.
3. Motorcycle must retain the appearance of an OE motocross or
off-road machine through the use of OE or equivalent aftermarket
plastic and seat. Front fender may be removed.
4. Motorcycle must retain OE or equivalent aftermarket 19-inch
rear rim. OE or equivalent aftermarket 21-inch front rim is
allowed. 19-inch front wheel, maximum WM3 rim width is allowed
(not mandated). Rear wheel hubs must be OE or equivalent
aftermarket items. Spools or hubs modified for quick-change
gearing are not permitted on the rear.
5. Motorcycle must retain OE or equivalent-sized aftermarket
rear brake system.
6. Front brake may be removed - and must be disconnected -
for oval track races. OE or aftermarket front brakes may be
used in TT events.
7. Only "Class C" rear tires will be allowed, NO rear knobbies
permitted. OE or equivalent front 21-inch knobbies are
allowed on 21-inch wheels but not required. 19-inch front
wheel, maximum WM3 rim width is allowed (not mandated).
8. Standard motocross modifications, such as aftermarket pipes,
reeds, carbs or carb mods, shocks and/or suspension work, etc.
are allowed. Mufflers Are Required.
9. Front and rear suspension may be shortened through the use
of topout spacers, linkage and/or springs to make the machine
more compatible for dirt track use.
10. Cooling system requirements for liquid-cooled motorcycles
are as follows; WATER ONLY or "Red Line Water Wetter" or
equivalent must be used NO ANTI-FREEZE.
11. If it doesn't say you can, you can't!
12. Riders Not Eligible to compete in the 450 TOP GUN CLASS are,
top 15 riders of the 2002/2003 Open Class point standings and the
top 10 riders of the 2002/2003 Vintage Class point standings.
Riders of other organizations must call for approval to compete
in the 450 TOP GUN Class.
13. Returning 450 TOP GUN Champions are granted one additional
year to defend their championship, repeat champions must move
to the Open Class.
